Introduction: The beauty of the Earth can only be obtained through the extraction of the world itself. However, the ability to extract may not be something that everyone can do. Additionally, the ability to extract something may not be the physical removal of an object but instead it could be a moment in which one obtains a sort of spiritual connection to something larger. The multiple ways we extract from nature results in the different ways we relate to it. I imagine if there were such a spirit, or god, that symbolized Mother Earth in one way or another, that they would wonder if humans were having a mass form of dissociative identity disorder when trying to describe our relationship with nature as a whole. I think that such a diagnosis may not be too far off, but perhaps we can make it less so. The relationship between humankind and nature is about how people choose to extract from the world.
